Bulk import (CSV)

Available on Juvenile and above. Go to Account → Import / Export → Import CSV.

Supported targets

• Animals
• Enclosures
• Species
• Feedings (requires animal IDs from a previous export)

Workflow

1. Download the template CSV for the entity you want to import. It has the exact column headers ScaleVault expects.
2. Fill it in. Empty cells are fine — only the required columns matter (e.g. name, species, sex for animals).
3. Upload. The next page shows a preview with errors highlighted in red.
4. Confirm. Records are created in one transaction; if any row fails the whole import is rolled back.

Tips

• For animals referencing species and enclosures by name, those have to already exist. Import species and enclosures first.
• The template includes a notes column — useful for stashing legacy IDs from your old system so you can cross-reference later.
• For very large imports (>1000 rows), split into batches of ~500.

Export

The same screen has Export CSV for each entity. Exports are full snapshots, suitable for backups or migrating to another keeper system.
