Billing & plans

Manage subscription at Account → Billing. Stripe handles payment; ScaleVault never sees your card number.

Only account owners can start checkout, update payment methods, change plans, or cancel subscriptions.

Animal transfers between accounts (e.g. buying an animal from another breeder) are available on every plan, including Hatchling — the receiving account isn't blocked by plan limits when claiming a transferred animal.

Annual billing saves about 20% on self-serve paid plans: Juvenile $48/yr, Adult $84/yr, Colony $180/yr, Apex $279/yr.

Every new account starts with a 14-day free trial of all features. No credit card required to start.

Limits are soft for grandfathered accounts — if you hit a cap you'll be prompted to upgrade but existing data is never deleted.

Switching plans

Use Account → Billing → Change plan. Plan changes happen in-app — you won't be redirected to Stripe.

• Self-serve plan changes are available for Juvenile, Adult, Colony, and Apex.
• Need more than Apex's included 3 sites / 20 users / 50 GB? Contact us for custom pricing — larger multi-facility operations are handled directly rather than through self-serve checkout.
• Rescue is application-based (use the Rescue application flow).
• Upgrades apply immediately: you're charged a prorated amount right away and get the new plan's limits right away. The confirmation dialog shows the exact amount before you confirm.
• Downgrades are deferred to the end of your current billing period — you keep your current plan's access (and price) until then, and the new plan takes over automatically at renewal.

Cancelling

Account → Billing → Cancel opens a short cancellation survey, then cancels your subscription in-app (no redirect to Stripe).

If you cancel, your subscription stays active through the current period and then downgrades to Hatchling. Existing records are preserved; when limits are exceeded after downgrade, excess records are hidden until you upgrade or reduce usage. Changed your mind? Click Keep My Plan on the billing page any time before the period ends to undo the cancellation.

Lifetime tiers

Some accounts hold permanent, free access to a tier from a past one-off deal. This changes how billing behaves for that account:

• You can never be moved — by a downgrade or a cancellation — below your lifetime tier.
• Upgrading past your lifetime tier only costs the difference: your lifetime tier's price is applied as a permanent discount on the new plan, so you're never paying twice for what you already have for free. (Lifetime Apex has nothing above it to upgrade to, so this never applies in practice — a lifetime-Apex grant is a pure floor with no further self-serve purchase possible.)
• Downgrading back down to exactly your lifetime tier cancels the paid subscription instead of charging you for a tier you already have — you keep that tier's access permanently, for free.
• If a paid subscription above your lifetime tier ever ends, you fall back to your lifetime tier — never to Hatchling.

Self-serve purchase of a lifetime tier isn't available yet.

Educational and conservation discounts

Email the support address (see Notifications) with proof of status (.edu/.org domain or letter on letterhead) and we can apply a permanent discount.
