Enclosures list

Enclosure detail

An enclosure is anywhere an animal lives — a rack shelf, a tub, a display tank, a quarantine bin. ScaleVault doesn't care about the physical form; it only cares that you can give it a name.

Fields

  • Location — required. How you'd describe it out loud ("Rack A, shelf 3" or "Living room").
  • Site — optional unless you're on Apex and have multiple sites.
  • Species — set the default species kept here. Animals you add to this enclosure pre-select the same species.
  • Substrate, dimensions, target temps, target humidity — purely documentation; ScaleVault doesn't enforce anything.

Per-enclosure logs

  • Cleanings — date + employee + notes. Useful for compliance.
  • Water checks — for amphibians and aquatic herps; tracks pH / temperature / changes.

Public profile

Each enclosure has a public profile page (e.g. /share/enclosures/<id>) you can share with visitors or buyers. It shows the animals currently housed there with photos. Owners can toggle this off per-enclosure.

QR codes for enclosures

In addition to per-animal QR codes, each enclosure has its own QR code that fans out to the animals living there. Scanning the enclosure code on a rack lets you (a) log an action against the whole enclosure or (b) drill into a single animal — see QR codes & quick actions.
